Homeopathy started over 200 years ago. It came about by a german physician, named Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. He graduated from medical school and began conducting his own homeopathic experiments on himself in the late 1700s. Then he began learning different languages to translate various medical texts. He systemized the law of similars, which is the basis of homeopathy, into medical science.
What is homeopathy ?
Homeopathy is the medical practice of taking the natural way to treat sick. It focuses on stimulating your immune system to cure your sickness. It is supposed to get down to the atomic level as opposed to modern medical practices, which only get down to the molecular level. It focuses on your whole body rather than just the diseased part of your body. Homeopathy remedies come from natural sources. Some include vegetables, fruits, minerals, and flowers. It is FDA regulated and is sold over-the-counter. It was founded on three principles: single remedy, let likes cure likes, and the minimum dose.
The Single Remedy
Only one remedy is given to patent. No more than one treatment is given because giving multiple at a time will confuse you on which one was effective or cured your sickness. Each remedy has its own sickness to cure and no remedy is the same. A remedy is matched to the person’s sickness.
Let likes cure likes
Hahnemann used healthy people to conduct an experiment. He used different homeopathic medicines on each person. A medicine that created a disease in one person, that same medicine can be given to a different person with the same disease that was created in the test subject. Practitioners match remedies to the persons sickness.
Hahnemann began to see that the remedies were working and curing his patients sickness, but they were leaving side effects. Then through experimentation he stumbled upon an idea called potentization. Homeopathy medicines started to be diluted until there was no chemical substance left. The more the remedy is diluted the more potent it is. Therefore, that is achieving minimum dose.
Acute and Chronic
These are the two main categories of homeopathic medicine. Acute medicines are used for diseases that can be treated easily or will pass by soon. For example, colds because they don’t stay for long or they aren’t inherited.
Chronic diseases are those that stay for a long time, inherited, or recurring. An example, would be cancer or AIDS. The length of the treatment is dependent on many factors. It could be the family medical history, the patients medical history, or the disease itself. The goal is to help the patient get back to their regular state of being, and do this by giving the patient medicine narrowed to them.
Are Homeopathic Remedies Safe ?
Homeopathic remedies have been regulated by the FDA since 1937. Some people believe that there is very little substance in the remedies because it is very diluted. It is essential to let your doctor know you’re going to use homeopathic remedies. Your medical doctor should know your body and if you are fit to use the remedies, he/she will consult you to a homeopathic practitioner. It isn’t always safe to turn to alternative medical treatment so check with your medical doctor.
